To me personally i have experience 2 swindle cases recently.
I'm not sure whether i should help or not? What if what the person said are real and i did not lend a helping hand seems to be so unkind.
Here's senario #1:
This happened few mths back when i'm walking alone at night after the kickboxing class. A lady in her 40s, came up to me asking what transport can she take from SK CC to Singapore General Hospital. I told her to take the train but she say she doesnt want to take the train which is so slow. She said her husband had an accident and she just went to visit her mom ard this area and she lived in woodlands. I told her i do not know which bus to take.
Then she say she's in a hurry but did not have any cash on hand asking whether i can lend her some money to take a cab or wad. Then i told her i did not bring along my wallet. She ask whether i drived or whether i can go withdraw money and take a cab down with her to the hospital. I immediately replied i got no cash, no wallet, no cards for i stay nearby i can walk home.
Then she walked off.
After she left, i kept thinking whether i'm self-fish, what if she said was real and i did lend a helping hand. But my mom said if she got no cash, she can ask from her relatives who might be going down to the hospital too. My mom said that i shld tell her that there is a nearest Police station nearby, i can bring her to go there for help if she wants. haha..
Senario #2:
This happens today when my mom and i were at home. One old man (guess abt 60s claded in a short sleeve shirt) knocked on our door claiming that he lived upstairs and ask whether my dad at home. I shaked my head. He said that his daughter was sick at home and had her nose bled so the teacher ask him to bring the daughter to see a doctor. He kept flicking his keys mentioned he just stay upstairs and saying that he does not have the money and the wife took the money to work and will only be back by 4pm. He wanted us to lend him money and when his wife came back from work will return to us. My mom replied a nope and he walked off.
I was thinking if its real, doesnt it seems that we're self-fish neighbours.
My mom told me some loop holes
1. he looks like 60s and still have a daughter? say grand-daughter might sound more convincing.
2. he dress so smart and yet no money at all at home, unbelievable
3. if the daughter is sick, by right the teacher would have send her to the doctor herself then call the parents
4. he could simply borrow money from the teacher instead since he would have know his daughter form teacher
My mom went to ask my neighbour and she did not lend the money too.
Sometimes i'm not sure when shld i ever lend a helping hand because we must always be wary of people.
Its hard to judge when to help and when not to.
For instance, the NKF thingy and the Ren Ci hospital incident makes people wonder what will happen to all their money they have donated.
People's kindness aint appreciated at times thou.
